Personal Oracle for the Year of the Horse

Copyright courtesy of Viktoria Makarova

The frantic barks were too much to ignore. I closed my laptop and walked out to the deck expecting to see a horse and rider trotting along the arroyo behind the house.  What I saw instead was a woman strolling along in a long white skirt with boots on her feet. A rope in her hand was looped around the neck of a majestic white horse with no saddle. The rope that connected the woman and the horse was slack, as if they were out for a leisurely walk together. I watched in amazement. Everything in me wanted to call out to her, but I knew better. She glanced over, we waved and it felt like a blessing.

The significance of the event began to expand when I shared the story with a friend. I told her that since it occurred January 1, I felt like it was a New Year’s Day gift from the universe. That’s when she mentioned that 2014 is the Year of the Horse.

It reminded me of a reading I had the year before Tarcher/Penguin purchased my manuscript. The reader looked at the cards spread out before us and said that she’d never seen so many horses in one reading, explaining that to her horse represented Spirit. She went on to say that I had been working diligently for decades like a camel carrying the load on my own. She said from that point on Spirit would carry my first book out into the world. The reader was right. All of the right people have been drawn to EVERYDAY ORACLES. Each sharing their expertise, all serving as spirit horses if you will. I am grateful for the visible and invisible ways Spirit continues to move the message of personal oracles through the amazing web of interconnections that link and support us all.

The woman and the horse walking together were a New Year’s Day personal oracle: a sign to me that Spirit will be there to carry my new projects, Cloud-Speak Personal Oracle Book and Cards and Personal Oracle Cafes, out into the world in 2014.

I was putting the finishing touches on this blog when an owl called. Intrigued, I followed the sound and discovered a brown owl sitting perfectly still, camouflaged within the branches of a Palo Verde tree. Something kept drawing me back to the window; I thought it was to catch owl moving. The last time I looked something made me step outside. As I closed the door behind me I heard horses hooves approaching from the distance and caught a glimpse of two horses and riders. They moved closer and I recognized one as the woman and her magnificent white horse. This time she was fully engaged in the act of riding. She was adorned in riding gear, complete with helmet, as was the person on the chestnut horse riding the well-worn path with her.
I invite you to become fully engaged and join me in 2014 to manifest your intention supported by spirit horse energy.
  • What are your goals and dreams?

  • Are you willing to do the hard work required to bring them to fruition?

  • How about harnessing the energy of this year of the horse to help you make your dreams come true?

The Chinese year of the horse is a time for all people to go forward confidently in the direction of their goals and dreams.

Synchronicities: Personal Oracles That Help Us Navigate

Check out these lyrics and images for your own secret messages.

Hello Ann,

I’ve been watching your show on Public Access in Tucson, AZ.  I’ve been moved to place my experiences on your website.  Since a very young age, this concept of 'synchronicity" has followed me all my life in ways that brought both happiness and terrible deep pain and sadness.  I am not sure of how or what they signify, for example:  I can be listening to someone talk about a show they saw on TV and forget about it...then later on I turn on the TV and there is that same show.  Or (like many) can be wishing for that certain song to appear on the radio and there it will be.  I also find that I can purchase articles of clothing in colors I enjoy, then, at completely different dates and times find matching items that match perfectly or close to perfect and they have nothing to do with each other - other than the clothes match.

While these examples are quite simple and light, others such as: being hired at the same company of a former lover that I had no idea was there and who eventually broke my entire heart and mind and brain and spine to where I ended up in the hospital- is more of a poignant example.

In 2011, I lost this same job at the hospital (Carondelet) after over 10 years of employment and at the same time a 15-year relationship ended within months of each other.  How "uppity" and "Stuck-up" I was to think I was just going to "bounce-back" into the world.  I didn't.  I fell lower and lower and more deep down into a sadness Id never ever experienced before.  I began listening to songs on my cell phone.  Random maybe?  Such as "Hallelujah," and Paul McCartney's "Admiral Halsey," - so random and the music is about 30 years older than myself.   I turned on a movie one day about depression and within one of the scenes as the background music, was the Paul McCartney song.

Then I went to a concert at the U of A to hear KD Lang sing and she did her own rendition of "Hallelujah," I was crying in my chair.  Sometimes I think it was an Angel or the Universe just tapping me on the shoulder saying, "I hear you - I see you in such pain and it’s going to be ok."

Maybe that's what I was being told?  I don't know what to think???

Any advice would be helpful.
Thank you.
Mellinda

Hello Mellinda,

First, let me say that I deeply appreciate you taking the time to share the synchronicities you’ve experienced all of your life as well as the ones you recognized that helped you make your way through those devastating times. By sharing your experiences you are offering insight and inspiration to others.

And, Congratulations on successfully decoding the personal oracle message spirit was sending you:  “I hear you – I see you in such pain and it is going to be Ok.”

Your examples of everyday synchronicities are great, how wonderful that they don’t slip by you unnoticed! The song Hallelujah was an amazing gift from the universe during the dark times. (It always gives me Goosebumps)

Here is another gift to you via me. The song is Anthem by Leonard Coehn.
It contains one of my favorite lines: There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in”

You seem to be navigating your way through, so I don’t know if I can give you any advice, but I can offer a couple of truths to hold on to.

The first is from an old Apache storyteller who reminds us:
“The plants, trees, clouds, rocks, fire, water are all alive. They watch is and see our needs. They see when we have nothing to protect us, and it is then they reveal themselves and speak to us.”

The second is the formula for how personal oracles operate.
Need + Delivery System + Message = Personal Oracle

When we embrace the fact that the universe is designed to support our needs, and that we are never alone it can give us the hope and courage we need to make our way through everything.

Thanks again for sharing – please stay in touch.
Love,
Ann

The Personal Oracle Behind Heidi's Mysterious Bear

A big thank you to Adele Park for hosting me as a guest blogger last November. Take a moment and check out Adele Park’s Quirky Audio Book blog. Treasures abound!

One day I needed to pick up a couple of gifts from a shop on the plaza in Taos, New Mexico. Like so many historical plazas, this community gathering place is built on a square and features a large gazebo where bands perform, speakers speak and when the stage is empty, children run and play. The square is surrounded by shops on every side so parking is always at a premium.

I had circled the plaza once, but had no luck finding a parking space so decided to make one more complete trip around, and if no place opened up I would go to the post office and then come back and try again. I remember telling myself, if I’m supposed to find a parking place, one will open up…. And it did!

I purchased the gifts and walked back to my car amidst a sea of commotion. A man in a car had stopped mid-traffic and was chatting away with friend, and both seemed oblivious to the back-up of cars, even the car blasting its horn directly behind them. It looked like I was going nowhere anytime soon, so I loaded the packages in my car and then checked my phone for messages. After a while I started the engine and glanced in my rearview mirror. The only thing visible was the familiar shape of the spare tire that hangs on the back of my car and the big Taos Chili Line bus sitting patiently behind a car that I thought it was waiting for my parking space. I had a strong feeling someone, maybe a pedestrian, was behind my car so I took another look behind, then on either side of my car and when no one was in sight I began to edge out. I did hear a lot of urgent honking but thought it was coming from an impatient driver. Next thing I heard was a crunch.

My heart sank. The good news - the crunch was not a pedestrian. The bad news – I had just backed into a beat-up car that looked like it was struggling to hang on well beyond its expiration date. The car with a newly crumpled right fender pulled into the alley entrance that was next to my car. Before getting out, I riffled through the glove compartment for insurance papers. They were always there, but today they were nowhere to be found. Sheepishly, I leapt out of the car and rushed over to the driver, ready to shower the woman with apologies. I was greeted by the kind earnest face of Heidi Svoboda. It felt more like a meeting of kindred spirits than a confrontation, even before she told me she was an energy worker who specialized in dogs. Yes, she did know someone who could repair her fender and guessed they would charge around $150. I had a gut feeling that I was supposed to give her more than that amount so that she could have her car repaired and have money left over. I had just been to the bank and had $500.00 in cash.  The $500 is Heidi’s, my gut said.

I placed the cash in her hand.

“You’ll never know how much I need this,” she said. Then she pointed to the silver bear pin with the small turquoise stone that I was wearing at the neck of my shirt. Heidi described in striking detail the bear cloud she had seen a few days earlier in the sky above Taos. And that wasn’t all. She went on to tell me about a reading she had before she saw the bear cloud. A psychic told Heidi not to worry, that bear energy would take care of her! The pieces of an invisible moving sidewalk started to fall into place.

It’s interesting to note that I rarely wear that bear pin – yet that morning something drew me to it. Without giving it any special thought, I pinned it on. That was my first step onto this invisible moving sidewalk. The synchronicities continued to add up. I had just been to the bank and had cash in hand for Heidi. After circling the square a second time, a particular parking space opened that put my car at the right place at the right time.

Don’t get me wrong. I take full responsibility for backing into Heidi’s car. But when we look through the paradigm of personal oracles we can see that my bear pin and I were playing a part in Heidi’s invisible moving sidewalk. Heidi needed a helping hand and I became the delivery system for the Universe.

Isn’t it comforting to know that the Universe has our back – always?

A Favorite Personal Oracle Story to Start the New Year

At the end of 2013, I had a chance to connect with Dirk Terpstra, and such a pleasure it has been! Dirk, a contributor to OMTimes Magazine, started a website called Super Souls. As this site says, Dirk is a true believer in the principle of promoting Kindness, Happiness, Peace, a balanced lifestyle and spreading Love.
Dirk and I spoke over the phone and he posted our interview on his December 30th blog. I’d like to start the 2014 New Year with an excerpt from that interview, which seems only fitting since it involves one of my all time favorite personal oracle stories and also the energy of my new friend, Dirk Terpstra.
By the way, you can follow Dirk on Twitter at @MySuperSouls and on Facebook at Super Souls.
SS: Can you share your favorite personal oracle with us?
Ann: Okay, I think that will be about Dr. Allan Hamilton. I love this story because it shows us that someone in a position of authority and very left-brain trained makes a decision supported by his right brain.”
In his book The Scalpel and the Soul: Encounters with Surgery, the Supernatural, and the Healing Power of Hope, Dr. Hamilton, a Harvard-trained neurosurgeon, shares the following personal oracle story.
Dr. Hamilton with the University of Arizona’s Medical Center here in Tucson, which is where politician Gabrielle Giffords went after she was shot.
Dr. Hamilton lives on a ranch outside of Tucson and at the time of this story, was driving to the hospital to do neurosurgery on one of his patients. Suddenly, he had to slam on the brakes. Three buzzards were standing in the middle of the road shredding a carcass of a dead jackrabbit. He was bothered by the gruesome scene, but he drove on, of course, and arrived at the hospital.
While his patient was being wheeled into the operating room, Dr. Hamilton saw the patient’s wife lean over her husband, kiss him on the forehead and refer to him as “my little bunny.” The image of the dead rabbit and the buzzards feeding on it flashed into Dr. Hamilton’s mind, and he knew right then that the buzzards had offered a warning to him. He cancelled the surgery. Four hours later, his patient suffered a massive heart attack and went into cardiac arrest. Medical personal were able to respond and the patient lived. Had heart attack occurred in the middle of the surgery, however, it probably would have been fatal.
Fortunately for the patient and his family, Dr. Hamilton trusted his inner wisdom and intuition, paid attention to the personal oracle delivered to him, and acted on its message.

Spiritual Guidance and Support: Ours for the Taking

By Ann Bolinger-McQuade
I would like to thank Lisa Tully for hosting me as a guest blogger, as part of the virtual book tour celebration for my book, EVERYDAY ORACLES – Decoding The Divine Messages That Are All Around Us. This post first appeared on her site http://www.spiritualquestadventures.com/.

The ancient wisdom of our ancestors offers clues that can help us recognize the spirit within the divine structure of our universe, which interacts with us unceasingly.
In China around 500 B.C., Confucius wrote:
My way is crossed by a single thread that connects everything.
Joseph Campbell interviewed an old Apache Storyteller who reminded us:
The plants, trees, clouds, rocks, fire, water are all alive.
They watch us and see our needs.
They see when we have nothing to protect us,
and it is then they reveal themselves and speak to us.
And this Ancient Hasidic saying delivers a similar message.
When you walk across the fields with your mind pure and holy, then from all the stones, and all growing things, and all animals the sparks of their soul come out and cling to you and they are purified and become a holy fire in you.
The ensouled world the ancient ones describe is animated, interactive and designed to respond to our needs. These concepts move from the abstract into our everyday lives each time this energy is illuminated by personal oracles.
What is a personal oracle?
Personal oracles are those mysterious messages that show up in every form imaginable in response to a need that is occurring in our life at the moment.  Often mistaken for coincidences, these messages are actually perfectly orchestrated synchronicities that are tailor made to guide, support and even protect us all.
Formula for how personal oracles operate.
Need + delivery system + message = personal oracle
Lets start with an example of how personal oracles work through nature.
One day my neighbor Rhonda was taking her little dogs for their routine walk when a hummingbird flew directly in front of her face, stopped abruptly and hovered there. Rhonda stopped in her tracks. Shivers went up her spine. The message was clear. As she turned on her heels and headed for home the word DANGER began to sound repeatedly just outside of her left ear. She describes a voice. “It was as if someone was speaking directly to me.”
When she arrived home she noticed the light flashing on her answering machine. It was an urgent message from her neighbor across the street. “Stay inside. There is a pack of wild dogs in the area. They killed some our sheep and our dog that was laying on the porch beside the front door.”
OK. Lets consider the personal oracle formula and how it plays out in Rhonda’s story.

Need that engaged the universes support: Rhonda and her dogs were in danger.
The delivery system: A little hummingbird on a mission.
The message: Seek safety.
Synchronicities such as the one in the next story are easy to take for granted.
Mary’s personal oracle doesn’t involve danger, and the delivery system is something we all use everyday – a cell phone! But when we consider the events through the paradigm of personal oracles, we are reminded of what Confucius said about the single thread that connects everything.
Mary was struggling. The responsibility for writing the copy for the fund-raiser had fallen into her lap, and she was only a couple of hours away from the deadline for getting publicity to the paper. She had written dozens of these news releases, but this one just wasn’t coming together. It felt like something important was missing. Mary was thinking, If only I could talk to Dawn, she would polish it up in a second.  But her friend was in California and she didn’t have her cell number. That’s when the phone rang.
It was Dawn. She was traveling on the train from Burbank back to San Diego and was following an impulse to check to see if her new cell phone would work on the train.  When Mary quit squealing with glee, she explained what was going on and within five minutes they had wordsmithed the article into perfect form.
When we go about the business of living, we never know when a personal oracle is going to come to our rescue. We also never know what role we may be playing in someone else’s personal oracle!
Personal oracles resonate through every form imaginable – depending on what is available that will speak clearly to the individual in need.  There are conduits like Rhonda’s hummingbird and synchronicities like Dawn’s phone call to Mary. Other times signs and symbols relay secret messages our way. When we tune in and learn to decode what has been tailored to our needs, we notice animals, clouds, rock formations, even license plates that mirror timely message back to us.
Our personal oracles are portals into the hidden dimensions of our universe. They gently beckon us to venture out of the confines of conventional reality and embrace the wisdom of our ancestors who lived in concert with the universe. They reveal the guidance and support that has always been there for the taking.

Interview with the Magical Buffet

I would like to thank Rebecca Elson for posting this interview on her blog, The Magical Buffet.

Your new book is called “Everyday Oracles: Decoding the Divine Messages that are All Around Us”.  How do you define a personal oracle?

Personal oracles are mysterious messages of guidance and support. We all receive them. They may seem random in nature until we consider them through the paradigm of personal oracles and realize, they are not random at all. The universe is responding to our needs! These timely messages resonate through every form imaginable, and as they do they illuminate the divine energy that flows through and connects everything in the universe!

In your book you explain that personal oracles fall into five major categories. Can you explain the categories? Personal oracle formula:

The five major categories are
·      Conduits
·      Mirrors
·      Synchronicities
·      Signs and Symbols
·      Invisible Moving Sidewalks

Conduits – Think of a conduit as a pipeline or channel through which personal oracles are delivered into your life. A favorite example comes from Rhonda who was taking her two little dogs Taz and Toto for their daily walk. Suddenly a hummingbird flew right in front of her face and stopped her in her tracks. Rhonda immediately sensed that she was in danger. As she turned on her heels and headed for home the word “Danger” sounded repeatedly just outside her left ear. When she got back to the house she noticed a message on her answer phone. It was from her neighbor across the street, urging her to stay inside. A pack of wild dogs had just killed some of their sheep and their pet dog that was sleeping beside their front door. Thanks to this little hummingbird on a mission Rhonda and her dogs were protected from imminent danger.

Mirrors – Clouds can serve as great mirrors to reflect what is occurring in our life at time. Sometimes when I’m feeling out of sorts I notice cloud images that look like they are laughing. My message – lighten up!

Synchronicities – According to Carl Jung, synchronicities are coincidences with a purpose! Mary had the responsibility of getting the copy for the fundraiser to the newspaper. The deadline was only hours away and she was still struggling. She knew if she could talk to Dawn, she would polish it up in no time. Unfortunately Dawn was traveling and Mary didn’t have her new cell number. Suddenly the phone rang. It was Dawn. Talk about perfect timing. At the moment Mary’s frustration peaked, Dawn happened to call her. Dawn was riding the train from Burbank to San Diego and was checking to see if her new phone worked. Mary explained what was going on, and within five minutes Mary and Dawn had polished the article into perfect form.

Signs and Symbols – Signs and symbols are like billboards that announce messages designed for our eyes only. Some messages are as clearly understood as stop and go traffic lights. Like Kerri who was making her way through the physical and emotional damage left behind by the fires in her neighborhood of Colorado Springs. A year later, as she hiked through the burnt area she spotted a perfect heart at her feet. The heart looked as if it had been carved into the ground. Kerri interpreted it as a sign, a signal from the universe of love that remains even in the midst of devastation. The message of Kerri’s heart was uncomplicated. Other times signs and symbols operate more like secret codes and take a little deciphering.

Invisible Moving Sidewalks - Imagine people movers in large airports. You step on at one end and it delivers you to a predetermined destination. An invisible moving sidewalk is comprised of a series of synchronistic events that are designed to carry you to a specific destination. Noreen stepped onto an invisible moving sidewalk the day she and her husband had a huge argument. She stormed out of the house, “Get a life” she yelled as she slammed the door behind her. She drove around for a while to cool off and ended up at the library. Inside, she spotted a bulletin board with a flyer advertising a writing conference. She wished she was still writing but felt since she wasn’t she wasn’t qualified to attend. The next day at work Noreen heard a co-worker talking about the same conference. She expressed an interest and her friend suggested they go together. The workshop was just what Noreen needed. Before leaving the conference she signed up to attend the following year. At the end of this invisible moving sidewalk Noreen’s passion for writing had been rekindled – and it was Noreen who got a life!

            The formula for personal oracles:
Need + delivery system + message + personal oracle

The need or request functions like a summons to the universe; it’s a call to action. In Rhonda’s case the call was urgent. Imagine the call going out across the web of interconnections to any available and willing delivery system within range. In Rhonda’s case the urgent call was received and accepted by a tiny hummingbird. It became the delivery system. Many of us might have brushed away a hummingbird or ignored the clairaudient message. Don’t worry, the delivery system is always tailor made to resonate specifically with you and your circumstances.

How can we find and recognize our own personal oracles?
Pay attention to your gut feelings. Trust that small still voice of your intuition when it draws your attention to personal oracles that are trying to speak to you. When coincidences happen – stop – ask yourself – what is the specific need this “coincidence” is responding to? I believe there are no coincidences, only synchronicities!

Is a personal oracle message always immediately obvious?
Many personal oracle messages are immediately clear.  Other messages are not. Some messages need to crystallize over time. In my October 8, 2013 blog I share an account of 2 men who saw the same vision but needed the assistance of a Native American Shaman to help them understand what was occurring: the universe was waylaying them to keep them from danger.

Can our understanding of a personal oracle message change over time?
Yes. Often it is just a matter of allowing time for it to process, and letting a deeper message emerge. Some messages are one piece of a larger puzzle. When we have all of the pieces the message slides easily into place. When we work with our personal oracles they will expand our awareness and teach us even more.

What steps do you recommend people take to discover their personal oracles?
Here are a few key steps.
·      Begin by setting your intention to recognize the messages that are coming your way.
·      Open your heart - accept the support and guidance that is yours for the taking.
·      Trust the voice of your intuition.
·      Gather your own body of evidence. Record personal oracles as they occur. Write them down, photograph, draw, save feathers stones whatever is speaking to you. Then keep everything in one place. I like the sticker note shoebox method.  Write your experiences on whatever is handy and toss the pieces of paper in a shoebox. When you read them later you will be amazed by the number of personal oracles that have revealed themselves to you.

In your book you discuss “monkey mind chatter”, which for me coming from a meditation background is what we call your wandering mind.  What is it in relationship to discovering your personal oracles?

Monkey mind chatter is a cousin to the wandering mind! Both try to pull us back into left brain thinking. (Left brain analytical – right brain creative/being) Sometimes when a gut feeling signals us - pay attention - spirit is sending a message, the mind chimes in with chatter like, “there you go again – that’s all in your imagination – people will think you are crazy.” Whether meditating or decoding a personal oracle, the trick is to step to the right of the left brain and close the door! Then return to your personal oracle message, “Sorry we were interrupted. What do you have for me?”

Do you have a favorite personal oracle story you’d like to share?

Instead, if I may, I would like to share a favorite quote that sheds more light on how the universe operates to guide and support us. It comes from an old Apache storyteller who reminds us, “The plants, trees, clouds rocks, fire, water are all alive. They watch us and see our needs. They see when we have nothing to protect us, and it then they reveal themselves and speak to us.”

Do you have an upcoming projects my readers can be on the lookout for?

I’m so glad you asked. I’m very excited about Personal Oracle Café’s. Inspired by Socrates Cafés, Personal Oracle Café’s are a place where people meet to celebrate, validate and share personal oracle experiences. Using the personal oracle formula as a jumping off point they contemplate the structure and science of the energy that flows through and connects everything in the universe. The first Personal Oracle Café met Oct. 4, 2013 in Taos, NM at Optymism book store. This Personal Oracle Café meets the first and third Friday of each month. I welcome your readers to contact me through my website if they would like to start a Personal Oracle Café in their area.

I also share readers’ personal oracle stories in my weekly blogs. Stories are submitted through my website www.personaloracles.com

Another project that is dear to my heart is Cloud-Speak Personal Oracle Cards. They will be available in 2014.  I use the oracle cards in workshops and book signings and never cease to be amazed by the way they relate to what is going on in everyone’s life.
